Abstract

1,043,843. Bolting. C. O. OLDENKOTT. June 26, 1963 [March 1, 1963], No. 25387/63. Heading F2H. A washer comprises a plurality of circumferentially-extending, sloping, shouldered surfaces 40 on one side and a serrated surface 30 on the other side which tends to resist rotation when in contact with a surface. Two such washers 20, 22 are used to lock a nut 24. Any elongation of the bolt subsequent to tightening, is taken up by the surfaces 40, 44 on the washers causing the washers to be forced apart. The washers may be of aluminium, ferrous metal or polymerized resin. The washers may be used with a bolt having a roughened under-surface. The washers may be hexagonal to enable them to be rotated by a spanner to loosen a nut.
