Abstract

1444885 Locking nuts on bolts VIBRO-LOC Ltd 14 March 1975 [6 Feb 1975] 5176/75 Heading F2H To lock a nut 5 on a threaded portion 4 of a bolt 1, a further reduced threaded portion 3 is provided nearer the end of the bolt and of opposite hand to the portion 4 so that a second nut 7 can be threaded on the portion 3 to seat in a recess 6 in the nut 5 and bear directly or indirectly against the nut 5 whereby any loosening of the nut 5 causes tightening of the nut 7. The nut 7 may bear directly on the base 8 of the recess 6, and the bearing surfaces in this case may be roughened or notched or have ratchetlike projections. Alternatively a washer (not shown) may be provided between the nuts 5, 7. As shown in Fig. 2 a split pin may be passed into an axial passageway 10 with radial branches 11, 12 in the end of a bolt, one limb of the pin then being bent over the edge of nut 7 to enhance the locking effect.
