874,643. Belt fastenings. JACKSON & SONS (FASTENERS) Ltd., ISAAC. Jan. 29, 1960 [Feb. 23, 1959], No. 6225/59. Class 80 (1). [Also in Groups XXIII and XXV] In a conveyer belt fastener where the belt ends are sandwiched between pairs of bridging plates 1, 2, clamped together by bolts 4 and nuts 7 the heads of which bolts and the nuts are received flush in dished recesses 5, the bolts are turned for clamping by a tool engaging a square or hexagon 4a or a tommy-bar hole at the end of the threaded shank whilst the clamping nuts 7 are held against rotation by a tool engaging notches 13 in the nuts; by knurling or splining either or both contacting faces of the recess 5 and the nut; or by shaping the plate recesses hexagonal, square or oval complementary to the nut. After tightening, the projecting bolt shank is broken off flush with the plate. The bolts may be initially held in place by a spring clip 11 or by adhesive strip and in Fig. 5 (not shown), the tool for rotating the bolts is rotatable coaxially within the tool for holding the nuts. The bolt holes in the plate may be centred to prevent fouling of the bolt threads, Fig. 8 (not shown).
