Locking nuts.-In a lock nut comprising an outer member a having a tapered hole, and a tapered inner member e turning with the outer member and threaded to engage a bolt, the tapered surfaces of the members a, e are stepped at h to form interengaging shoulders for retaining the inner member within the outer one. In one form, Fig. 1, the member e is divided by a saw-cut g and has a key j engaging a keyway d in the member a. The key is formed by forcing up the metal from the surface of the member e, either by a press operation or a partial milling'and rolling operation. The saw-cut may serve the purpose of a keyway, or the key and keyway may be wedge-shaped.
