Abstract

246,699. Stewarts & Lloyds, Ltd., Carson, J., and Liddell, G. April 14, 1925. Joint-making packing. - A fluid-tight joint between the ends of two pipes, containers &c. 10, 11 is secured by means of a packing ring 1, having a mid portion 2, adapted to cover over and press against the abutting ends of the pipes, and side flanges 3, adapted to press against collars or flanges 9, 9 on the pipes, the packing being positioned by means of a housing 6. The housing 6 is preferably made in two halves 6<a>, joined by bolts 7, and is arranged to hold the pipes &c. together by engagement with the collars 9, while the packing ring 1 is preferably of M-section so that either internal or external pressure will increase the initial tightness of the joint produced by the housing 6.
