Abstract
240,545. Morse, J. P. July 2, 1924. Press-button fasteners; stud-and-slot fastenings. -In a press-button fastener wherein the socket member comprises three relatively movable parts, these parts are resiliently held against accidental relative movement to release the stud bv a non- spiral wire spring. The socket member comprises a casing 1, a perforated plate 4, an axially movable member 3 and a perforated washer 16. The member 3 protrudes from the casing 1 and has legs 6 passing through apertures 5 in the plate 4, these legs having inclined faces 12a, 12b for operating the resilient stud-retaining spring arms 11. To use the fastener, the member 3 of the socket is pulled upwards, so that the spring arms 11 engage the faces 12b and are spread to admit the stud head 15 when the socket is placed over it. The member 3 is then depressed causing the faces 12<a> to move the arms 11 towards each other to engage the stud head. The shape of the faces 12<a> causes the member 3 to be held securely in position. To release, the washer 16 is pressed upwards relatively to the plate 4 against the action of the non-spiral wire spring 18 by means of the base 14 of the stud 15, lifting the piece 3 by engaging its legs 6 and allowing the resilient arms 11 to snap into the wider faces 12<b> and release the stud. The spring 18 is formed as a circularly-bent wire with radial fingers 19 bent out of the plane of the circle. If the member 3 is pressed down before the stud is entered, the resilient arms 11 enable the device to be used as a snap fastening.
