510,139. Sealing. HOFFMAN, E. Jan. 13, 1939, No. 1251. [Class 146 (ii)] The overlapping ends of metal bale-ties are sealed by deforming thereon a metal sleeve 8 ,having inclined ends, the sealing-machine being constructed with inclined guides 21 for the sleeve and with correspondingly - inclined cutting-edges 20 in a fixed die 6 and a movable punch 4. Positioning-elements 12, 12a pivoted on opposite sides of the machine, are connected by a U-shaped bail. If the band and clip are not correctly positioned beneath the punch and tensioning-roller 1, the elements 12, 12a are held in raised positions, and the element 12 acts as a stop to prevent movement of the lever 15 by which the tensioning-roller 1 is depressed into operative position. The elements are normally held in raised position against the action of a spring 14 by a projection on the lever 15. When the lever 5 is rocked to depress the punch, a pin 19 thereon strikes against a lever 18, the lower end of which acts to rotate the lever 15 and release the roller 1 and elements 12, 12a.
