Abstract

532,423. Holding tools. PREECE, J. Aug. 30. 1939, No. 24873. [Class 61 (ii)] A tool for facilitating the positioning of split cotter parts 11 on a valve stem 10 comprises a lever 1 formed at the end with a gap 2 and inwardly facing concave platforms 3, 3a on which the cotter parts are held in the open position shown by a spring pressed plunger 6 against bent over stops 5, 5a at the end of the concave retaining walls 4, 4a. When the cotter parts are pushed against the 'valve stem 10 the pressure of the latter forces the parts 11 backwards against the narrowing parts of the walls 4, 4a thereby closing the cotter parts on the valve stem.
