Abstract

714,929. Valve spring compressors. ALBICO (PRECISION ENGINEERING), Ltd Oct. 9, 1952 [July 13, 1951], No. 16609/51. Class 61 A tool for compressing the valve springs of internal combustion engines, compressors and the like comprises a valve collar pressing member 7 pivoted at 7<SP>1</SP> to an operating lever 5, the latter being pivoted at 5<SP>1</SP> to a pillar 3 having a fixing plate 4. The member 7 is tubular, the lower end being expanded and bifurcated to provide openings 9 to allow access to the valve stem when the spring is depressed. To the.ends of the fork is secured a disc member 10 having a hole therein of sufficient size to allow the passage of the valve stem 13 and cotters 14. Upward return movement of the lever 5 is prevented by an auto- - matically operating ratchet means comprising a locking lever 18 pivoted to a bracket 20 on the pillar 3 and having spaced holes in the slotted upper end through which a bolt 23 is selectively inserted, the bolt serving as a pawl to engage with ratchet teeth 17 provided along the upper edge of the lever 5. In a modification the ratchet teeth are replaced by notches.
