[Also in Group XXXIV] In an automobile lubricator (see Group XXXIV) comprising a plurality of plungeroperated valves (not shown) arranged in a ring around a reciprocable actuating rod 21, the valves are operated successively by a member 32 pivoted between arms 31 which are stepped around the axis of rod 21, at each reciprocation thereof, by a pawl 42 carried by the arms 31 and engaging a fixed indexing disc 25. Whenever the brake pedal of the automobile is depressed, a trip switch is operated to energize a solenoid so moving the rod 21 upwardly. The rod swings the lever 32 to depress a valve plunger. At the same time, a lever 37 is released by the movement of rod 21 and tilts under gravity so that its end enters a slot in the fixed indexing disc 25 and a pawl 42 is advanced by one step across a tooth 27. When the solenoid is released, the rod 21 drops and causes the arms 31 and lever 32 to be indexed round by reason of the engagement of the pawl 42 and the disc 25. Instead of a solenoid, the lubricator may be operated by vacuum or by compressed air working against a spring, or by direct mechanical means from the brake pedal.
