biles, etc., and has for its object the pro-' duction of a tool of the character described by the use of which an impaired valve-core may be more readily and effectively removed from the valve-stem and without injury to the valve-stem, than has been done heretofore; and to this end my invention consists in the peculiar construction, combination, and arrangement of the several parts as will be more fully pointed out in the following description and claims.
. Referring to the accompanying drawings, .forming a part of this application, in which like numerals of reference indicate corre sponding parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is .a side elevation of my invention entire; Fig. 2 is atop plan of the same; Fig.
3 is a detail view showing a modification of the same, and Fig. 4 is a detail view, showing a longitudinal half-section of a wellknown type ofvalve with its valve-core in normal. working position and a cross-section of an ordinary single-tube-tire, as the same appear when properly connected for use.
My invention, by preference formed of an elongated integral piece of suitable tool steel, has an elongated stem 1 and a pair of flexible parallel arms 2, 3, rigidly connected end to end by a suitable trunk 4. The stem 1 has a suitably threaded and pointed portion 5 for the purpose hereinafter set forth. Each arm 2, 3 near its free outer end, has an instanding block-like enlargement 6 provided with an elongated outstanding finger 7 having an annular outer face 8 and a flat inner face 9 for the purposes hereinafter described.
10 represents an ordinary thumbscrew, having a threaded lower portion seated in and through a suitably threaded annular opening of the enlargement 6 of the lower arm 3 and a smooth upper portion mounted in and through a suitable opening of the enlargement 6 of the upper arm 2 whereby the flat inner faces 9 of the outstanding fingers 7 may be suitably drawn together for the purpose of grasping and holding, or let apart for the purpose of releasing, an intermediate object or substance, as may be desired.
In Fig. 4: is shown as much of the operating parts of a well-known type of valve for pneumatic tubes or tires as is necessary to fully disclose the several operations which may be performed thereon by the use of my: invention, and in .which all the operating parts of the core of this type of valve are shown in normal position in the core-chamber of the valve-stem. It will be observed here that the operating parts of the core of: this type of valve consists of an assembly pin 11 and a retaining nut 12, a check valve 13, a check-valve collar 14, an expansion coil-spring 15, and afish-tail guide-shel-l16,

be turned with a suitable tool into or out of its threaded seat in the upper portion of the core-chamber of the valve-stem and for the purpose of removing the core of this type of valve from the core-chamber of its valve stem or for replacing the same as maybe desired. The core of this well-known type of valve in due time becomes worn'and impaired by usage which necessitates its removal for repair and replacement or its discard and the replacement of a new core as the instance may require, and in this connection the operator of my invention is enabled to readily perform three separate and distinct operations that are frequently found necessary in the removal of the core from the core-chamber'of the valve-stem of this type of valve and as follows, namely: (a)By inserting the points of its fingers 7 in the mouth of the core-chamber of the valve-stem so that the lugs 17 of the retaining nut 12 stand up between the points of the fingers and then turning the retaining nut to the left thereby until the same is so turned out of its threaded seat in the core-chamber of the valve-stem, and it will be seen here that the retaining nut when so removed may be returned to its threaded seat in the corechamber of the valve-stem by inserting and turning it to the right therein until it is suitably set against the bottom of its threaded seat therein for the retention of the core. (Z))In the performance of the above-described operation for the removal of the retaining nut 12 from its threaded seat in the core-chamber of the valve-stem it is frequently found that the core can not be freely withdrawn from the core-chamber of the valve-stem by reason of the accumulation of a hard gummy substance or sediment in the core-chamber which necessitates another operation for the removal of the core with my invention by setting the points of its fingers 7 over the upper end of the assembly pin 11 until a suificient portion of the pin stands up between the points of the fingers for affording a suitable grip thereon and then turning the thumb-screw 10 to the right until the inner faces 9 of the fingers are suitably drawn together and gripped upon the pin "for drawing it from the core chamber of the valve-stem for the removal of the core. (0)In the performance of the abovedescribed operation for the removal of the core from the core-chamber of the valvestem it is occasionally further found that all of the operating parts of the core are so removed from the core-chamber of the valve-stem except the coil-spring l5 and the guide-shell 16 by reason of the loWer end of the assembly pin 11 drawing through and out of its retaining seat in the guide-shell Which necessitates another operation for the removal of the coil-spring and guide-shell with my invention by inserting the pointed and threaded end of its stem 1 in the core chamber of the Valve-stem and turning it to the right until its pointed and threaded portion has suitably picked up and taken on the coil-spring and guide-shell for drawing the same from the core-chamber of the valve-stem by so withdrawing the stem from the valve-stem.
In Fig. 3 is shown a modification or" my invention in which the thumb-screw 10 is omitted for the reason that in most cases the operator may perform the operation above described as (b) by gripping the arms 2, 3 of the tool adjacent the thumb-screw and without the use of the thumb-screw if so desired.
In the above construction I produce a simple, novel and useful tool of the character described "for readily and effectively removing impaired valve-cores from this well-known type of valve for pneumatic tubes or tires.
Having thus fully described my invention and set forth the operation and advantages thereof, what I claim as new and desire to secure by lietters'latent, is
1. A valve-core tool tor removing impaired valre-cores from a well-known type of valve for pneumatic tubes or tires, the same comprising an elongated stem, a pair of flexible parallel arms, and a suitable trunk for joining the stem and the pair of flexible parallel arms end to end, and the flexible parallel arms having a pair of instanding block-like enlargements near their :tree outer ends provided with a pair of elongated out standing fingers having a pair of fiatinner faces for the purpose described, substantially as specified.
2. A valve-core tool for removing inn paired Valve-cores from a well-known type of valve for pneumatic tubes or tires the same comprising an elongated stem, a pair of flexible parallel arms, and a suitable trunk for joining the stem and the pair of flexible parallel arms end to end, and the flexible parallel arms having a pair of instanding block-like enlargements near their free outer ends provided with a pair of elongated outstanding fingers having a pair of flat inner faces for the purpose described, and means for suitably drawing the flat inner faces of the fingers together or for letting the same apart for the purpose described, substantially as specified.
