G. A. NELSON TERMINAL FULLER Filed Dec. 17, 1923 Patented Aug. 19, 1924.
GEORGE ALBERT NELSON, OF LINDSBORG, KANSAS.
TERMINAL FULLER.
Application filed December 17, 1923. Serial No. 681,252.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. NELSON,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Lindsborg, in the county of McPherson and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Terminal Pullers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide a simple and inexpensive, yet a desirable and eflicient device for pulling off the ter 13 minals from storage batteries.
lVith the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subiect matter, hereinafter described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the application of my invention in removing a battery terminal. I
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view partly in elevation.
Figures 3 and 4 are horizontal sectional views on lines 3*3 and 44 of Fig. 2.
In the preferred form of construction, selected for illustration in the present application, the numeral 1 designates a cross head having a central opening 2 and bifurcated ends 3. Pivotally mounted in these bifurcated ends, on rivets or other suitable pivot pins a, are two elongated levers 5, the pivots a being adjacent the lower ends of said levers, which ends are curved inwardly toward each other and thinned to provide a pair of awe 6 for reception under a battery terminal.
Above the pivots 4, the levers 5 diverge with respect to each other andbetween them, a screw 7 is disposed, said screw having its lower end threaded through the opening 2 while its upper end is provided Witha suitable head or the like 8, by means of which it may be rotated, through the instrumentality of a wrench or similar tool.
the post. To prevent inward swinging of the upper endsof the levers 5 during this pulling operation and to consequently prevent release of the aws 6 from the terminal, I provide a lever spreader 9 which is freely slidable alongthe screw 7 to abut the levers as shown in Fig. 1. In the preferred con structio'n, this spreader 9 is in the form of a disk having a hub 10 slidable upon the screw 7. I a
By providing the construction shown and described, or a substantialequivalent thereof, a device is produced which is simple and inexpensive, and may be easily and ad vantageously used in removing battery terminals or performing similar work.
As excellent results are obtainable from the details disclosed, they are preferably followed, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous minor changes may be made.
A device of'tlie class described eoinpris' ing across head having a central transverse opening, a pair of elongated levers fulcrun'ied near one end to the ends of said crosshead and having jaws onsaid one end, the other ends of said levers being in diverging relation with each other, a screw between said diverging lever ends threaded through said central opening, and a! lever spreader slidable freely along said screw for contact with said diverging lever ends to prevent inward movement thereof and consequent release of said jaws.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.
GEORGE ALBERT NELSON.
