Description

E. R. GREENFIELD. \ROCK AND LOG FULLER. APPLICATION FILED -0v.21. I917.
Patented June 11, 1918.
ELIMER RAY GREENFIELD, OF WATTSIBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
ROCK AND 106- FULLER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June it, 119M.
Application filed November 21, 1917. Serial No. 203,285.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that ELMER RAY GREENFIELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wattsburg, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rock and Log Pullers, and he does hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in rock and log pulling apparatus, and consists of a simple and eificient device of this nature having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
y invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention.
, Fig. 2 is a top plan view, and
ig. 3 is a detail view.
eference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter:
A and B designate two jaws of the apparatus which are of the general shape shown and provided with elongated teeth. The jaw A, a detailed perspective of which is shown clearly in Fig. 3 of the drawings, has teeth A projecting therefrom and has a recessed portion A adapted to receive the bar K, with notches I upon the upper edge thereof adapted to be engaged by the pins A passing through the walls of the recessed portion of the jaw A. The said bar K is pivotally connected to the shank portion E of the jaw B and has pins K adapted to engage the notches formed in the curved segments K, which is pivotally connected through the medium of the pin K with the shank portion E. A coiled spring K is Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the connected at one end to the curved segment K and its other end to the shank E, and F designates a whifHetree connected to one end of the shank E. Through the medium of the apparatus shown it will be noted that the device may be adjusted to adapt the same to engage a rock or other object by placing the in A in different notches I, while the pin 4 may be placed in difierent notches of the segment K and held by the coiled spring from moving upward. In operation, the pin A engages in one or the other notches I in the bar K, according to the size of the rock or other object to be hauled, then the bar K is pushed downward and with it the jaw A, causing the teeth A to grip the object between the jaws. To permit the bar K and the jaw A to be pushed down the segment member K may be swung upon its pivot to engage the particular notch in the under side of the segment K, the spring K serving to hold the segment in an adjusted position.
What I claim to be new is:
1. A rock and log puller comprising two jaws, one having a recessed portion, a bar pivoted to the shank portion of the other jaw and having notches therein, a pin carried by said recessed portion of the jaw and adapted to engage said notches, and spring pressed adjustable connections between said IsJhank portion of one jaw and the notched 2. A rock and log pulling apparatus, comprising two jaws, one having a recessed portion, and a bar pivoted to the other engaging said recessed portion, said bar having notches, pins carried by the walls of the recessed portion and adapted to engage said notches, a curved notched segment member pivoted to the shank portion of one jaw, pins carried by said bar and adapted to engage the notches of the segment member, and a spring fastened at one end to the jaw and the other end to the segment member.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ELMER RAY GREENFIELD.
