Abstract

457,355. Valve accessories. BULLOCK, F. E., Cotherstone, Warwick Avenue, Coventry. Aug. 29, 1935, No. 24112. [Class 135] The head a of a poppet valve is secured to a separate valve stem b by means of an intermediate divided conical bush c in a similar manner to that described in Specification 422,723 for the attachment of a spring abutment collar to a valve stem. The valve head a has a recess a<1> tapered to fit to the bush c and tappered in such a direction that the bush tends to grip the stem in service. The bush c has an inner annular rib c<1> loosely engaging a corresponding groove b<1> in the stem so as not to prevent the firm grip of the bush on the stem above and below the groove. A metal plate d pressed into position to engage the undercut upper edge of the recess a<1>, bears on the upper end of the bush but not on the stem. When used in internal-combustion engines, the head a may be of some heatresisting metal or alloy such as silichrome or nickel steel whilst the stem b is of mild steel.
