Abstract
468,349. Operating clutches. FAIRBROTHER, H. (Tomkins-Johnson Co.) Feb. 8, 1937, No. 3712. [Class 80 (ii)] In a one-revolution clutch for power-presses, riveting - machines, &c., the control pedal 82 is connected to a rod 56 which carries at its upper end a pivoted spring-pressed latch 68, the lower arm of which normally engages a surface 78 on a member 60 having a stem 64 slidable in the rod 56. A pin 50 arranged in a longitudinal slot in the rod 56 engages between forks in the member 60 and in a rotatable plate 34, which latter has an arm 38 formed with a cammed end co-operating with a projection 42 on the spring-pressed radially slidable clutch key 20. When the pedal is depressed, the member 60 moves downwards with the rod 56, causing the plate 34 to turn to disengage the arm 38 from the key 20, and the clutch therefore engages. During the course of the revolution, a cam 72 on the shaft 12 engages the upper arm of the latch 68 and moves the latter off the surface 78. The plate 34 thus returns to its original position under the action of a spring 48, and the clutch inevitably disengages after one revolution. To re-engage the clutch, the pedal 82 must first be released and then depressed.
