Stapling, hand tools for.-In a stapling machine using strip staples and including means as described in Specification 207,895 for straightening or preventing turning of the end staple whilst it is severed and driven, the strip slide 14 which is pivoted to the base 10 by a pin 15 is at its upper portion slightly less in width than the distance between the prongs of the staple, but is wider below the prongs to form spacing strips 51, Fig. 12, between the slide and its housing. The strips are discontinued near the forward end 52 of the slide to give a clearance throughout the height of the slide between the staple and the housing, and the forward end of the slide is also bevelled off at 53. The construction enables bent or jammed staples to be readily cleared, and to assist in this the staple throat 19 is cut away slightly at 54. The staple-straightening means comprise a frame 40 having L-shaped legs 41 which embrace the plunger 20 and are adapted to enter between the prongs of the first and second staple when the plunger is depressed. Spring fingers 45 at the upper end of the frame 40 engage shoulders 44 on the plunger so that the latter carries the frame 40 with it until the fingers 45 are opened by lugs 48 on the cam plate 47. On return movement of the; plunger, a cross-bar 46 on the frame is engaged by a lug 28 on the plunger. The lug 28 operates through a tumbler 24 the usual strip-feeding mechanism.
