Abstract
222,598. Hoare, C. J., and Allday, N. July 16, 1923. Press - button fasteners; stud-and-socket fastenings.- In large press buttons for securing the hoods of vehicles and like purposes where a headed stud is engaged by a socket. carrying a pair of S- shaped retaining springs, the socket member is provided with a sleeve which engages the retaining springs so as to be normally retained in an inward position in the socket, and when pulled outwards spreads the springs and disengages them from the head of the stud. The springs 7 are held between the socket 6 and a plate 14, both of which have Ranges for guiding the sleeve 11 which has a. pair of opposite inclined slots 12. The sleeve is shown as having been pulled outwards by its knob 16 so that the arms 8 of the springs 7 have ridden up the inclines 12 on the sleeve to release the stud 3, shown in dotted outline. The knob 16 is secured to the sleeve by engaging the end of the sheet-metal stamping in a circumferential groove in the sleeve. The springs can also be released from their engagement with the head of the stud by turning the sleeve through 90‹.
