Abstract
516,617. Stud fasteners. FERNBERG, E. B. June 3, 1938, No. 13181. [Class 44] A stud fastener particularly for holding carpets comprises a spring metal strip 1 bent to form aperture-engaging shoulders 4, a neck 5, and outwardly directed feet 6, and an apertured plate or washer 7 surrounding the neck. The device may be secured to the carpet 8 by a ring 9 having prongs 10 passed through the carpet and clinched over the edge of the washer. A plate 11 may be interposed between the feet 6 and the carpet. To provide clearance for sliding movement of the feet when the stud is being snapped into engagement or removed the washer may be recessed. Alternatively the ring 9 may be omitted, and the washer provided with prongs 13. Fig. 7, which are passed upwards through the carpet and clinched. The stud may be inserted nose-first through the washer before attachment or the washer may be first attached and the fastener then inserted feet first through an enlargement 14 of the aperture produced by stamping out a tongue 15 which may be afterwards flattened into the plane of the washer.
