237,969. Kent-Mitchell, Ltd., and Galley, F. G. May 5, 1924. Variable-speed chain and belt gearing.-A twospeed gear comprises a shaf 2, Fig. 2, geared to two pulleys 5, 6, the speed being changed by a cam lever 18, Fig. 3, which operates by shifting the belt between the pulleys. The pulley 5 is fast on a shaft 1 geared directly by a sprocket pair 9, 10 to the shaft 2. The pulley 6 is upon a loose sleeve 4 connected by a pair 7, 8 to the shaft 2. A belt shifter 14 is moved in one direction by a spring 23 and in the other by the lever 18 which has a cam surface 19 struck by a roller 20 carried by a wheel 21 rotated by the machine. The invention is applicable to picture displaying apparatus described in Specification 191,204.
