Abstract

Sheet-registering devices.-In a sheet-feeding- device of the kind in which conveying bands or rollers are driven at variable speed by elliptical gears designed to slow down the sheets as they approach front stops, the period of rapid feed is lengthened and the slowing down period shortened by combining two rocking gear wheels m, m<1> with the elliptical gears b, b<1>. The gear b is fixed on the driving-shaft a, and gear b<1> is freely mounted on a shaft h and has fixed to it a gear g meshing with gear m. The gears m, m<1> mesh together, and are carried in a forked lever i oscillated by a cam d on shaft a engaging a roller k mounted at one end of the lever i. A gear m<11> fixed to gear m engages a gear n on a shaft fitted with a sprocket o geared by a chain to a shaft r geared to the driving-pulley t of the feed belts v. The cam d is so positioned that, shortly before the front edge of the sheet reaches the registering- stops, the lever i is rocked so that the wheels m roll on the wheel g in the direction in which the wheel g is rotating, and the drive is retarded rapidly almost to zero. The lever is then rocked back by the cam so that the wheel m rolls in the opposite direction on the wheel g and effects rapid acceleration.
