Abstract
191,668. Olver, W. H., and Fry, G. A. May 8, 1922. Roller mills.-Relates to roller mills for grinding paints &c., and particularly to triple roller mills in which a pressure roller and two adjustable grinding-rollers, one on each side of the pressure roller , are arranged with their axes substantially in the same plane and parallel to one another. The grinding-rollers l, n are driven by separate chains s, t from a fixed driving-shaft so arranged that the adjusting movement of the grinding-roller towards the pressure roller m to take up wear has the effect, up to a certain point in the movement, of slackening the chain driving the grinding-roller, but after passing the said point a further adjusting movement of the roller in the same direction has the effect of again tightening the driving-chain, thus providing for the full range of adjustment of the grinding-rollers so that they can be completely worn out without shortening the chain and without requiring any tension devices for the chains. The centres of the wheels e, q are placed so that the angles EFM, GHM, Fig. 1, become right-angles when the rollers are half worn out. Fig. 4 shows the chain wheels e, g fixed to spur wheels c, d which gear with a wheel b on the lay shaft a.
