APPARATUS FOR FEEDING PAPER SHEETS Filed Sept. 22, 1928 Patented July 21,1931
PATENT. omen ms mm, or female, enmanw APPARATUS FOR FEEDING PAPER SHEETS Application filed September 2 2, 1928. Serial No. 807,702.
With apparatus for feeding paper sheets, it is essential, for attaining a reliable sheet feed to the printing machine, to retard the movement of certain rotary parts thereof during part of their revolution.
The present invention relates to an improved device for attaining this object in view. According to the same, the casing of a differential gearing is set in reciprocating motion by arranging on the main shaft of the apparatus an eccentric that is in connection with a toothed sector, of which the teeth are in gear with a toothing on the casing of the differential gearing. Thereby, the planet wheels are turned, once, in the ro tary direction of said in opposite direction, whereby the resulting variation in the speed of the driven wheel during one revolution takes place after a sine curve.
By the improved device, particularly, sudden speed changes and shocks resulting therefrom are avoided; the speed changes taking place in a uniform and smooth wag, which is of great advantage for the wor ing of the machine, especially of high-speed machines.
The accompanying drawings illustrates the improved device y way of example:
fFig. 1 is a side view partly in section there- 0 Fig. 2 is an end view thereof,
Figs. 3 and 4 arecross-sections on the line III-IV of Fig. 1, respectively in the direction of arrow 3 and of arrow 4.
On the main shaft a of the sheet feeding apparatus a spur wheel I) is keyed and in gear with a pinion a on an axle d revolubly mounted in the two-part casing e. Said axle d carries a toothed wheel 7 of somewhat larger diameter than that of the pinion 0. On the main shaft 0, furthermore, a rotary sleeve 71. is loosely mounted and fitted at its inner end with a toothed wheel 9 and at its outer end with a driving chain wheel 11, the two-part casing 6 being loosely mounted on the sleeve h and the two toothed wheels 7, g meshing with one another through an intermediary gear revolubly mounted on a bolt Z fixed in one s de wall of the casing e.
main shaft and, then,-
through the toothed sectors r,
Assuming that the casing e is in fixed or stationary position, the spur wheel I) would turn the pinion c and thereby the toothed wheel f, intermediary gear 7:, toothed wheel and chain wheel a.
According to the invention, however, the casing e is not fixed or stationary but tumable aboutrthe main shaft a. For attending a uniform reciprocation of the same, the following arrangement is provided '6 On the main shaft on an eccentric m is keyed, of which the loose outer frame at carries a rod 0 linked to a lever armp ona shaft g, that is fitted with a toothed sector 1' in gear with another toothed sector 8 on the 05 casing a. With a rotation of the main shaft (1 the rod 0 and thus the lever p are uniformly rocked, which motion is transmitted 8 to the casing e. Consequently, the gears 0, f, k are turned, once, in the rotary direction of the main shaft (1 and, then, in opposite direction thereto. Thereby, the speed of the driving chain-wheel is once accelerated and then retarded in uniformly alternate fashion, so that the speed variations take place in a shockfree manner and after a sine curve.
What I claim, is:
1. The combination,
in an apparatus for feeding paper sheets, com rising a main shaft, of a casing for a di erential gearing loosely turnable on said main shaft, a toothed sector on said casing, another toothed sector in gear therewith, and an eccentric gearing intermediate said main shaft and sald lastmentioned toothed sector adapted to set the latter in uniformly reciprocating motion.
, 2. In an apparatus for feeding aper sheets, in combination with a main sha and with a loosely turnable casing for a diiferential gearing, comprising a toothed wheel keyed to the said main shaft, planet wheels provided in said turnable casing and driven by said toothed wheel, a sleeve loosely mounted on said main shaft, a toothed wheel fitted to said loosely mounted sleeve and in mesh with said planet wheels,an eccentric keyed to the said main shaft, a rod fixed to said eccentric, a lever arm, a second shaft, the said lever arm being linked to said rod and keyed to said secloosely turnable ca 0nd shaft, a toothed sector on said loosely another toothed sector on turnable casing, said second shaft both sectors being in mesh with each other and designed to set the said eating motion.
sing in uniformly recipro- In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
HANS PRAETZEL.
