Abstract

237,013. British Cotton Industry Research Association, and Oxley, A. E. April 17, 1924. Carding - engines; feeding carding-engines; openers, cleaners, &c.- The main cylinder is provided with a greatly reduced number of flats and two preliminary mechanisms are provided, the second of which is located above the centre line of the cylinder so that the back plate between the licker-in and the flats is kept narrow. The material is taken from the lap and passed over a feed plate a to a licker-in b with mote knives b<1> and grid b<2>. It is withdrawn along a shoot c to a cage d and passed therefrom by rollers f to a second feed plate g and licker-in h. The back-plate h<4> closes the space between the licker-in h and the plate B. An air blast arrangement may be provided at the base of the shoot c to assist in stripping the material from the lickerin b. The licker.in b is driven by a crossed strap from the main cylinder shaft, and in turn drives the licker-in h. by an open strap. The feed rollers a<1>, g<1>, the rollers f and cage d are driven by trains of gearing from the side shaft.
