Abstract
363,817. Carding engines. FINE COTTON SPINNERS & DOUBLERS ASSOCIATION, Ltd., HAIGH, C. H., and HINDLEY, J., St. James's Square, Manchester. Dec. 13, 1930, No. 37622. [Class 120 (i).] In a revolving flat carding-engine a wire-covered roller D, Figs. 1 and 2, disposed above the licker-in B and set so as to pick or strip tufts of fibre or seed off the cylinder A and return them to be opened by the licker-in is rotated in the opposite direction to the cylinder, i.e. with the adjacent surfaces moving upwards in the same direction, and in the same direction as the licker-in, i.e. with the adjacent surfaces moving in opposite directions, and is driven at a much slower surface speed than either the cylinder or the licker-in. The roller D is carried adjustably in brackets H, H<1>, H<2> and is driven by a rope from the cylinder shaft through a gear train k, k<1>, k<2>, Fig. 3: The flats C may be driven from the pulley K<1>. The seeds &c. are removed from the licker-in by the mote knives b<1> and grid bars b.
