Abstract
363,898. Carding-engines. MERCER, J., Ladhope Mills, Galashiels, Selkirkshire. Feb. 21, 1931, No. 5503. [Class 120 (i).] In a carding-engine, a combing roller 3 and a cleaning roller 4, both covered with card clothing, are arranged beneath and between the cylinder 1 and the doffer 2 ; the combing roller clothing and the doffer clothing are back-to-face when in motion, the cleaning roller clothing and the combing roller clothing are in contact and back-to-back, and the cleaning roller clothing is gauged from the clothing on the cylinder. Fibre on the doffer is straightened by the roller 3 which is cleaned by the roller 4 which, in its turn, is cleaned by the cylinder. The arrows indicate the directions of rotation of the various devices, the peripheral speed of the roller 4 being twenty per cent greater than that of the roller 3 which has a peripheral speed of two to five times that of the doffer 2. The combing roller clothing is gauged from the clothing on the doffer.
