517,316. Carding-machines. HAWORTH, H. V. Feb. 7, 1939, No. 13648/38. [Class 120 (i)] A carding-machine for producing multi - web ribbon slivers from strips of carded web comprises a licker-in B, Fig. 1, two main cylinders D, F provided with sets of flats E, H, a smaller intermediate cylinder G and two doffers J. L having a fancy K therebetween. The licker-in B, first main cylinder D and the intermediate cylinder G are covered with saw-tooth metallic card clothing while the second main cylinder F and the two doffers J. L have ordinary card clothing. Cleaning grids are provided under the members B, D, F, G, and the cylinders D, G. F rotate at successively higher speeds. The fibres are taken off the points of the wire on the second cylinder F by the upper doffer J after which the remaining fibres are raised by the fancy K and doffed by the second doffer L. The web from each doffer may be divided into four or more sections and condensed through funnels into four or more slivers, the slivers from the upper doffer and the webs from the lower doffer pass through the condensing funnels together to form imposed webs resulting in four or more slivers. The four or more resultant slivers may be assembled with those of similar cards and passed through a sliver lap machine.
