Abstract
In order that the carding action between worker rollers and a main cylinder may be less severe in the early stages of carding than later, the first worker roller has an axial spacing between adjacent rows of teeth of 1.6 to 20 mm. and each successive worker roller has a narrower axial spacing than the worker roller preceding. The effective height of the teeth of the first and second worker rollers is preferably at least 3.5 mm. and the working angle of the teeth of the first worker roller ranges from 58 to 68 degrees with the second worker roller having a greater working angle than the first, say by 5 degrees. Successive worker rollers may be of increasing diameters. In association with the above arrangement there may be provided a taker-in with wire clothing of less effective height than is conventional and with one or more worker rollers about its periphery (Fig. 5, not shown). The taker-in shaft is located lower than that of the doffer roller.
