Abstract

233,548. Thornton, A. A., (National Brass Co.). June 13, 1924. Latches, sliding.- Tubular mortice latches are guided by a pair of struck-up inwardly bent flanges, one struck up from the fore-end plate and the other from the fore-end cap which is secured to the tubular casing by a bayonet-slot coupling. Fig. 6 shows the end plate 9 with a square hole 10 for the latch-bolt 14 and a guide 11 struck up from the hole. Two small additional projections 34 are also struck up to fit in recesses 32 in the end cap 8, being bent over afterwards to secure the plate and cap together. In forming the hole l0a in the cap 8, Fig. 7, the second bolt-guide 31 is struck up so that when the plate and cap are secured together by the lugs 34, the parts 11, 31 form a pair of parallel guides for the latch bolt as shown in Fig. 55. The caps 7, 8 are secured to the tubular casing 4 by bayonet slots 6 engaging pins 5. The bolt shank 16 can slide through the flange 13 against the spring 18 when the door is slammed. The bolt is shot by the spring 20 after retraction by the follower 24.
