Catches, spring; striking- plates for locks.-The catchplate of a lock is box-like in form and contains a pair of pivoted, spring-pressed, hookshaped catches adapted to be pressed apart by the shot bolt of a lock such as described in Specification 244,835 when the door is closed and to snap behind the bolt and retain it. In addition to the actuating springs, the catches are provided with a retaining means comprising a spring hook pivoted on one catch and engaging a projection on the boss of the other hook. The box 1 is mortised into a hole 3 in the door post and secured by screws passing through flanges 2. A pair of hook-shaped catches 10, 11, bevelled at 16 are pivoted on a common pivot 12 and are pressed towards each other by springs 15. Round lugs 13 on the catches travel in arcshaped slots 14 to guide the catches. When the door is closed, the bolt 8 thereon, which is shot, separates the catches against their springs by engaging the bevelled parts 16 and passes beyond the catches. which snap behind it to retain the door. Release is effected by retracting the bolt. A hook-like pawl 17 pivoted to the catch 11 and pulled by a light spring 19, engages a shoulder 18 on the boss of the catch 10 to retain the catches in operative position. On slamming the door with the bolt shot, the spring 19 is overcome and the pawl disengaged from the shoulder while the catches 10, 11 are separated to allow the bolt to pass beyond them.
