Abstract

232,548. Vulcan-Werke Hamburg und Stettin Akt.-Ges. April 19, 1924, [Convention date]. Addition to 213,156. Driving-arrangements for screw propellers.-The transmission system described in the parent Specification is modified by providing separate hydraulic units for forward and reverse running, the forward unit driving direct through reduction gear and the reverse unit driving through an intermediate shaft to the propeller shaft. An extension 3 of the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine 1 carries the primary parts 4, 5 of the two hydraulic units, the secondary parts 6, 7 being attached to concentric hollow shafts. The forward gear 6 drives the propeller shaft 10 through gears 8, 9, and the reverse gear 7 drives by pinions 11, 12 an intermediate shaft 13 which is coupled to the propeller shaft through gears 14, 9. The gears are housed in a casing 27 having bearing brackets 16, 17, and forming a reservoir for the liquid used in the clutches. Specification 228,498 is referred to.
