Abstract

318,102. Bauer, G. Aug. 27, 1928, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Driving-arrangements for screw propellers including two or more reversible prime movers, in particular oil engines driving the propeller shaft through hydraulic or like couplings and gearings, all the engines are used for full power ahead or astern, but where ready manoeuvring at lesser power is required the two engines or two sets are run in opposite directions and clutched in separately is required. The engines 1, 11 drive through clutches 3, 13 a gear wheel 5 meshing with the wheel 7 on the propeller shaft 8 whilst the engines 2, 12 drive it through clutches 4, 14 and gear wheel 6. For full power ahead and astern all the engines are used. For manoeuvring engines 1 and 11 are set for ahead running and either or both may be coupled up and engines 2, 12 are set for astern running and either or both coupled up as required.
