Reversing-gear for motor boats yields a reduction on both forward and reversed drives, and in changing over, an engine clutch B is disengaged and a brake-drum D on a gear shaft C arrested. An element F with peripheral gear teeth and internal clutch teeth is feathered to slide on the gear or upper shaft C. When this is slid forward by a control lever N, its clutch teeth engage like teeth on a loose gear E establishing a reduced drive through pair E, H to propeller shaft G, the boat then going ahead. When the lever N and gear F are pulled aft, the gear F engages an idler M, so that another reduced drive is effected through train F, M, J, the shaft G turning in the direction to drive the boat astern. A thrust bearing L is built into the gear casing. The control lever N carries a cam O, which through bell-crank lever Q, link R, and threearm lever S disengages clutch B and applies a shoe to drum D in the course of the traverse of gear F.
