Abstract
226,821. Daimler-Motoren-Ges. Dec. 24, 1923, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-In engines supplied occasionally with supercharges by a pump which draws air through a carburettor, the carburettor is provided with air passages which may be enlarged to correspond with the increased volume of air, the enlargement being such that the air velocity past the fuel nozzle during supercharging corresponds with the velocity when the engine draws in its air without the use of the supercharging pump. To maintain this uniform velocity, the carburettor may be provided with an inner fixed choke tube e and outer movable tubes f, g coaxial with the fuel-nozzle h and either adjustable by hand, or loaded by gravity or springs and adjusted automatically so that as the air volume increases, the tubes f, g rise and increase the cross section for air flow. By placing the pump between the carburettor and the cylinder, the air is drawn through the carburettor in a cold and therefore dense condition and moreover the pump acts as an atomizer and mixer thus making it unnecessary to obtain a high degree of atomization in the carburettor.
