Abstract
222,759. Wade, H., (McAneny, M. J.). March 4, 1924. Valves closing after predetermined interval of flow.-A slow-closing valve is provided with a piston moving loosely over the valve rod and connected to it through a spring. The piston is moved against the spring by pressure liquid admitted by an auxiliary valve, and the main valve then follows the piston. The rate of closing is determined by a controlled leakage conduit. The valve 13 coacts with a seating 14, controlling the outlet from the chamber 8. The valve is carried by a plug 17<a> through which the stem 17 passes, forming an enlargement at 17b. A piston 19 moves loosely on the stem 17 and is controlled by a pair of springs 20, 21, bearing against the nut 17<c> and shoulder 12b respectively. The space below the piston 19 is connected with the inlet 16<a> by a duct 22 controlled by a hand-operated plug cock 24 which is normally kept closed by a spring. A discharge duct 28 is controlled by a needle valve 29 which allows a slow leakage. The valve 24 is opened momentarily to admit pressure liquid below the piston 19 and lift the piston till stopped by the nut 17<c>. The valve is thus started and the recoil of the spring completes its opening. Water flows to the outlet 15 while the valve is closing due to leakage past the valve 29. The application of the valve for flushing purposes is described. A water-closet bowl is provided with a chamber 31 having an inclined hinged valve 36 opening outwards. The valve is held closed by a catch 38 but is opened by the lever 42 when the piston 40 is lifted by the inflow of water from the valve, Fig. 4. The water is discharged, the lever 42 returns to its normal position, and the valve 36 closes by gravity. The valve may also be used in connection with petrol supply stations.
