Abstract

591,795. Pilot valve apparatus. BAILEY, S. R., and WILD & CO., Ltd., A. G. Nov. 13, 1944, No. 22352. [Class 135] A flushing apparatus comprises a main valve 12 between the inlet 3 and outlet 5 and provided with a differential hollow piston 6, which normally keeps the valve, in the closed position due to higher liquid pressure in the chamber 7. Pressure in the chamber 7 is maintained by water from the inlet leaking past the piston. A passage 20 through the valve and piston is normally closed by a mushroom valve 22 which, when tilted. by means of a handle 32, allows the liquid in chamber. 7 to escape to the outlet and the greater pressure then acting on the under surface of the piston will raise the latter and open the main valve to allow the main flush to start. A sleeve 15 carried by the main valve, guides the latter and allows the flushing water passing through an aperture 16 in the sleeve to exert an extractor action on water flowing down through passage 20. The main valve will close as soon as sufficient water has leaked past the piston to build up pressure again in chamber 7: Tilting of the stem of valve 22 is effected by a spring-loaded rod 30 which receives an axial movement on tilting of handle 32. Valve 22 is maintained in the closed position by flat spring 24. A baffle sleeve 34 on the main valve prevents the delivery water from obstructing flow of water through passage 20.
