Abstract
670,728. Thermally-actuated valves. RADIATION, Ltd. April 3, 1950 [June 1, 1949], No. 14734/49. Class 135 [Also in Group XIII] A gas or other valve is operated by the relative expansion of a tube and rod, one of which is made of metal and the other from a plastic of the acrylic ester type such as polymethyl methacrylate. In the chambered head a of a room-thermostat for controlling a bye-pass supply of gas to the burner of a distant water heater, a spring blade c operates a valve b according to the relative expansion of a tube h of acrylic ester plastic and a metal rod g. When the valve b is opened, gas flows from a pipe i to an outlet j. In another embodiment (see Group XIII), the rod g acts directly on an adjusting plug screwed into a spring-loaded valve.
