Abstract
397,853. Thermally actuated or controlled valves. GAS LIGHT & COKE CO., MASTERMAN, C. A., and AUSTEN, C. R., 84, Horseferry Road, London. Feb. 29, 1932, No. 6093. [Class 135.] A thermallyactuated gas cutoff valve has the thermal element in the form of a bi-metallic strip housed in a chamber communicating on the one hand with the gas supply pipe and on the other with a burner nozzle. The thermal strip 30, which is of rhomboidal form, is secured to the casing by a screw 18 and when cold is adapted to close the entrance to the passage 17 of the burner. This valve may be used to control a diaghragm-actuated main valve 23. The valve 23 is secured to a flexible diaphragm 6 clamped between metal washers 21, 22 secured between two parts of the casing. A leakage passage 41 controlled by a screw 38 connects the main gas inlet with the chamber above the diaphragm which in turn is connected to the inlet of the thermally operated valve by a pipe 2. According to the Provisional Specification the pilot burner may have a, lining of steatite, porcelain or other insulating material and may be adjustable to give complete or part closure. The bye-pass 41 may be replaced by a passage in the valve member and spindle controlled by a pointed throttling screw or by a diaphragm of known and constant porosity. A multimetallic strip may be used. Specification 347,224 is referred to.
