Abstract
537,057. Fluid-actuated valves. ASCOT GAS WATER HEATERS, Ltd., and CARSON, B. H. Feb. 9, 1940, No. 2561. [Class 135] Relates to devices actuated by the flow of the liquid for automatically controlling the supply of gas to gas-heated apparatus for heating liquids, e.g., water, of the kind wherein a diaphragm or piston acts on the gas valve and is controlled by a pressure drop set up by a choke member in the liquid pipe, the choke member having a byepass controlled by an auxiliary valve. According to the invention the choke member is held in the casing by means of a cock the stem of which controls the byepass channel or channels. The casing 1, which has a main water inlet 4, encloses the diaphragm 3. The water flows through a choke member 7 comprising a block 9 with a centrally arranged venturi passage 10, a byepass channel 11 leading to a recess 12. A rotatable cock 13 fits the recess 12 and has a spindle 14 extending through a stuffing-box 15. The cock has an apertured wall 16 adapted to control the byepass 11. The upper face of the diaphragm is connected to the throat of the Venturi by passage 18, groove 19 and bores 19a. A disc valve 20 loaded by a spring is adapted to open when the pressure exceeds the value necessary to open the gas valve.
