Abstract
670,773. Liquid fuel burners. KNUPFFER, M., and INDUSTRIAL & DOMESTIC HEATERS, Ltd. Nov. 16, 1948 [Oct. 16, 1947; June 10, 1948]. Nos. 27786/47 and 29808/48. [Divided out of 15728/48.] Class 75 (i). In a burner in which heavy oil is preheated and sprayed into air from a fan and in which the oil pump, the fan, the ignition means and the oil temperature are automatically controlled, the spray nozzle (not shown) is secured to a holder 8 secured to a metal block 5 which conducts heat from the fuel heater to the nozzle to ensure that the oil is sufficiently fluid for effective spraying by the time the air blast commences and an elastic metal bellows 10 is arranged within the block to seal off a space having a fuel inlet 12a and a fuel outlet 7 leading to the nozzle and to yield elastically when a spring-urged cut-off valve 1 is opened by the fuel pressure within the sealed space. The bellows 10 which may be of multi-wall construction is secured at one end to the nozzle holder 8 and at its other end to a thrust rod 22 which is urged to abut the stem 21 of the needle type valve 1 by the contraction of the bellows and by the expansion of a heavy spring 13 enclosed in a tubular tail 11 on the block 5 behind the bellows and adjusted by a screw 16 passing through the end plug 17 of the tail. The needle valve 1 is opened by a light spring 23 when the oil pressure moves the thrust rod to the right. Two immersion heaters controlled by a thermostat are used in the preheater. Specification 477,296 is referred to.
