Abstract

1277. Leigh, A. G. Jan. 18. Valves closing with rush of fluid.-In flushing- apparatus in which water is supplied to a cistern 18 through a handle-operated plug cock 32, the flush as it passes from the cistern through the passage 26 acts upon a disk 25 attached to the spindle 33 of the cock and situated in the passage, whereby the disk is carried from right to left in Fig. 2 and the cock is closed. Valves closing after predetermined interval or flow. - In a flushing-valve, shown in Fig. 4, water from the service-pipe 28 is admitted by a push-cock 35 and passage 38 to the underside of the piston 3, which, with the discharge valve 1, thereupon rises. Water then passes along the tube 2 through ports 39 into the lower chamber 6<a>, and thence bv ports 41 beneath a partition 40 into the flush-pipe 9. The air in the upper chamber 6<b> may be allowed to escape through a float valve 46. Accumulation of water in the chamber above the piston 3, through the opening 44, gradually closes the valve.
