Abstract

Jointing tubes to headers; ball-and-socket joints; tapered spigot and socket joints.-In a ball- and-socket joint for pipes, or between a pipe 1 and a header 8, the members 2, 3 thereof are formed independently of and loosely applied to the end of the pipe &c. The members 2, 3 are each provided with spigots 16, 9, adapted to enter the end of the pipe 1 and a recess 10 formed in the wall of the header around the hole 7 therein, respectively, and copper jointing rings 17, 11 of inverted V-shape, thus enabling a fluid-tight joint to be made when the elements are drawn together by a bolt 21 and a bridge member 22 which bears upon a collar 19 on the pipe 1. In modifications, the position of the two members is reversed, and the spigot 9 is adapted to surround the pipe 1. When jointing one flanged pipe to another, the spigots on the members 2, 3 enter the ends of the pipes, and the jointing rings bear against the flanges 24, securing bolts 25 being provided.
