Butt joints; rod couplings.-In joints having the pipes or rods drawn together by bolts and loose flanges, the flanges having internal conical surfaces adapted to compress split conical rings A to grip the pipe &c., the pipes or rods are alined by a ring C having annular grooves or recesses on the opposite faces to receive the pipe or rod ends. The pipes fit tightly in the recesses, to form a fluid-tight joint without packing.
