19,232. Riding, H., and Boyle, T. Aug. 21. Sleeve joints with bolts and flanges. - Lead pipes are joined by forming annular grooves d in their ends, and inserting a sleeve c. A suitable tool for forming the grooves has a centring-portion o, Fig. 5, and cutters m with spaces n to allow escape of the removed metal. Packing e may be placed at the bottom of the grooves, the joints being completed by a clamping-sleeve f, Fig. 1, having teeth which embed in the pipes to prevent separation; or the sleeve may have sharp ends c', Fig. 4, which cut into the pipes, the pipes being drawn together by bolts j. The flanges f may be divided to facilitate application, and may have teeth which embed in the pipes.
