Abstract
154,491. Hughes, A. E., and Dilworth, J. Feb. 14, 1920. Overlap joints with tapered spigot or socket; overlap joints with packing at base of socket; plates &c., securing pipes and tubes to.-In a method of securing tubes in a radiator,. one end of the tube c enters a nipple e on the header, of greater diameter than the tube to enable it to enter out of alinement against the pressure of a spring h, and when the tube is in alinement a coned spigot c' on the other end of the tube enters a socket b, the spring h serving to keep tight the joint at both ends. The nipple e is conical in its interior, and the ferrule f is recessed at f<1> and has packing g at the base of the socket. The spring h bears against a fixed collar i. The coned spigot c has packing d around it.
