Overlap joints with longitudinal pressure and with yielding outer pipe; sleeve joints.-A separate thimble or internal ferrule C is supported and centred by abutment upon the pipes to be joined, but is otherwise free and unsupported for a part of its length, and, together with the outer screw-threaded sleeve B, forms a conical gripping-means for the pipe D. The internal thimble or ferrule C is coned at one or both ends C<1> or has a spherical end, and is grooved.
