Abstract

209,110. Ingersoll, H. L. April 24, 1922, [Convention date]. Systems depending on vse of two or more motors.-A group of electric motors respectively driving different axles of a locomotive is controlled in such a manner that any required combinations can be obtained. In the arrangement shown in the drawing, twelve motors are respectively connected to terminals 55A - - 55L which can be plugged into terminals 55<a> - - 55l of a group of circuits controlled in common by a rheostatic and series-parallel controller of any suitable kind. Fuses and isolating switches are connected in the various circuits. Preferably not more than eight motors are working at the same time and machines which get too hot in working are switched out and replaced by fresh machines. Thermal relays and annunciators furnish the necessary indications. The invention is applicable to turbo-electric or other locomotives.
