Abstract

381,123. Master control of A.C. motors. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 147, Queen Victoria Street, London.-(Assignees of Seeger, E. W. ; Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, U.S.A.) May 9, 1932, No. 13319. Convention date, May 11, 1931. [Class 38 (iii).] Regenerative braking.-A two-speed motor M, connected for high or low-speed operation by means of a switch 9, has reactors 1, 2, 3 in circuit with the low-speed winding S, and direct current windings W2, energized in accordance with the position of the switch 9, are provided on the reactors. As a master switch 11 is moved in one direction or the other a main switch 6 and one of two reversing switches 7, 8 are closed, and the motor M is connected for low-speed operation, the direct-current windings W2 on the reactors 1, 2, 3 being energized and controlling the acceleration. If the movement of the switch 11 is completed the switch 9 is energized, disconnecting the windings W2, and the winding S, and connecting the motor winding S1 for high-speed operation. Upon return of the switch 11 to its " off '' position, the switches 6, 7, 8 are maintained closed over auxiliary contacts 7c, 8c, and the contacts of a relay 10, while the switch 9 drops out to disconnect the winding S1 and connect the slow-speed winding S, and the direct-current windings W2. Regenerative braking is effected under the control of the windings W2, and after a time the relay 10, energized in series with the windings W2, opens to de-energize the switches 6, 7, 8 to disconnect the motor from the supply. Reactors such as 1, 2, 3 may also be provided in the circuit of the winding S1.
