Abstract

427,025. Master control of D.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and CANSDALE, J. H., 40, Murray Road, Rugby. Oct. 13, 1933, No. 28357. [Class 38 (iii)] A regenerative compound-wound vehicle motor A is controlled by contactors 2, 3, 4, which first close to short-circuit sections of armature resistance B, and later re-open to insert sections of resistance S in the shunt-field circuit. The first operation of a master controller M closes contacts 21-25 in sequence, to energize line contactors 1, 10, and armature resistance contactors 2-5. The contactor 5, which shortcircuits the whole of the starting resistance, maintains itself over the first contact of the controller. Further operation of the controller opens contacts 26-32 in sequence to de-energize the line contactor 10 and contactors 6, 2, 3, 4 and 7, in the order named, thereby introducing resistance in steps in the shunt field, the contactors 10, 2, 3 and 4, having auxiliary contacts 10x, 2x, 3x and 4x, for the shunt field control. On the last position a contactor 8 is de-energized to open the shunt field circuit or introduce a large resistance. By returning the master controller to the off position the motor is regeneratively braked.
