Abstract

434,189. Master control of D.C. motors. MALEY, A. W., 4, Grosvenor Road, Handsworth, and TAUNTON, E. M., 90, Fitz Roy Avenue, Harborne, both in Birmingham. Aug. 17, 1934, No. 15883/35. Divided out of 430,029. Drawings to Specification. [Class 38 (iii)] Field control ; non-regenerative braking.- The field windings of a vehicle motor are subdivided and speed control is effected by changing the connections of the field sections by means of contactors, the windings of which are connected in circuit with respective field winding sections. A master controller brings each contactor into action by connecting its winding across one or more field sections, and when the contactor operates it throws its winding into series with a field section. The invention is described with reference to the system of control described in Specification 430,029 and in addition there are described arrangements for preventing the operation of the series-parallel transition contactor in the motor circuit when braking is effected with the field sections in series. In one arrangement, Fig. 8 (not shown), the transition contactor is provided with a second opposing winding. Alternatively, the controller may short-circuit or open the circuit of the transition contactor winding.
