312,720. Higgs, G. R., and Associated Electrical Industries, Ltd. March 13, 1928. Switching systems.-Where two alternately' usable pantographs or trolley poles are provided on an electric locomotive or train with two motive equipments, a switching arrangement enables either collector to supply either or both motive equipments and earthing switch-gear is also provided. Two switches a, d are connected in series with collector p<1> and motor 1 and two switches c, e are similarly connected to collector p<2> and motor 2 the motors 1, 2 being arranged as usual for series parallel control. A removable link or switch b connects the junction points of the pairs of switches and a double pole switch f or its equivalent is connected as shown for earthing purposes. On a fault occuring on either pantograph or motive equipment the sound collector and motor may be used to drive the train by manipulation of the switches provided. The pairs of switches may be housed in separate chambers, the door or doors to which may be interlocked with the earthing switch or switches. The compartments may be connected by a passage so arranged that one compartment can only be reached through the door to the other and through the passage.
